TEAM: Company of the Iron Phoenix
COUNTRY: United States
For HMB I fight with Company of the Iron Phoenix. I also fight with the US IMCF team. I had done martial arts before, and I lifted weights, but as an adult I have never done a sport until I discovered medieval combat. Prior to fighting, I was a metal musician. Now I support true metal with actual metal armor and swords. I’ve been doing this kind of fighting for almost three years. My first full contact practice was in December 2013.
I have never fought at Battle of the Nations. I went to IMCF 2014 in Belmonte and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I didn’t actually make the team, I only fought in the exhibition All-on-all melee. I was new then, and being in huge melees without worrying about letting my team down (because the All-on-all isn’t for a medal) really helped me not to overthink and to just fight. It was incredible, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
For me, it wasn’t so much about fighting for my country as it was fighting for my friends and teammates. That is huge to me. I don’t see the other team as the enemy, they are also my brothers, trying to be the best, just the same as I am. What I really took away from Belmonte 2014 was a sense of camaraderie with everyone who puts on an armor and steps onto the list field.
My goals and expectations this year are to keep training and get better. I really like bohurt and duels, so that’s a lot to practice. I want to be the absolute best that I can be.
